So it’s been a week huh? I don’t know about anybody else but I still can’t believe the book is out, a lot of you have added it to your virtual shelves and I’m glad you did! Only last month I was compulsively typing into my phone or the laptop all the poetry. Editing it over and over and over again until it felt right.
I don’t have much to say this weekend. It’s a Friday night and I’m home. In PJs, watching my favorite shows. I’m leaving this poem right here from the book. I had this phrase(the title) for the longest time in my notes, I wrote it multiple times in my notebook and it was actually derived from this laboratory that was a part of my syllabus in 2nd year of college(we had to simulate a graphic of a man walking in the rain with an umbrella). I really wanted to use it and then after a year!!!! it clicked, I used the rain metaphorically as a downpour of emotions and hard times we experience as we grow up. And the change of subject from a boy to the man as a symbol of adulting. Growing out of adolescence- into adulthood. Ahhh too many words- just read the poem-
And oh have a lovely weekend! I wish you a lot of modaks doused in ghee and a very happy Ganesh Chaturthi <3
MAN WALKING IN THE RAIN WITH AN UMBRELLA One is the number of faces I can count in my room Yet three are the voices I hear As in my visions I drown Words call for tears But my tears dread words Looking out the window I see a boy walking away The rain wipes his tears As mine turn into rage He doesn't sing the words he writes But screams them off the cliff to call it poetry Make the dandelions fly high in the wind With the words he screams and hearts they break I watched him disappear into the rain So I hang up a mirror for one voice And for the other a few words I write- "Soaked in the pain he never conveyed Chills down his body by all the rage Drenched in the sadness he suppressed" And yet I'm asked to look for happiness For the boy who vanished in rain's embrace I speak for the man coming my way All the moments of nothingness will come and stay The ones we give our everything could part ways But don't let yourself go, you are the reason to hold on In the storm of life, we will all find a place Like the man walking in the rain found Under his umbrella of awareness
